Last week for library book checkout!

May 18, 2009

The 2008 – 2009 school year is winding down!

This is the last week for library book checkout. All library books are due by May 29. If a book is lost, is must be paid for by the end of the school year. Look everywhere for those lost library books! They can end up in the strangest places :)

It’s National Library Week!

April 13, 2009
National Library Week is April 12 – 18!

National Library Week is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries, librarians, and library workers. It is also a time to promote library use and support.

Here is how NPES will celebrate National Library Week

*As students and the NPES community come to the library throughout the week, share with us why you LOVE your library.

*On Tuesday, April 14 at the Lexington Main Public Library from 6:00-8:00 pm, families can get a library card, check out books, and connect with other readers at our Meet @ Main event! Oak Grove Elementary, Midway Elementary and Pleasant Hill Elementary readers will join us too! Porkchop Productions will present “Rip Van Winkle” at 6:30 pm — should be DREAMY (and it’s FREE!)

*On Thursday, April 16 at the South Carolina State House, NPES 3rd graders will participate in the South Carolina READ IN on the State House grounds.

Here are other ways YOU can celebrate (at home and at school)

*Visit this website:

http://www.statelibrary.sc.gov/index.php?option=com_philaform&form_id=2&Itemid=1

and tell the South Carolina State Library why you LOVE your library

*Read a book based on a movie and then rent the movie – compare the two (a great “at home” activity)

*Eat food from a book!

        - Read Everything on a Waffle and make up a batch of waffles (serve with EVERYTHING)

        - Read Wild Boars Cook and bake some chocolate chip cookies

        - Read a Dr. Seuss book and make Dr. Seuss hats out of red and white life savers

        - Read Hansel and Gretel and make a gingerbread house

*Take a picture of each student in your room with their favorite book

*Have students survey teachers and other students about what their favorite book is, graph the results

*Have students create bookmarks based on their favorite book

Have fun!

Happy National Library Week!

Love,

Mrs. Byrd Fort

December Update!

December 2, 2008

Hello NPES Family!

It’s been busy in the NPES Library Media Center.

The South Carolina Book Award Book Clubs are a hit! If you would like to come to the library in the mornings to listen to a book award nominee, check out our calendar to find out when the club meets : https://www.edline.net/pages/New_Providence_Elementary_Scho/2033098101253010450

Our Scholastic Book Fair was a success! We sold over 1500 books and raised more than $200 for One for Books.

2009 will be a great year in the library! Look for details about our author visit and other fun activities!

NPES family,

The South Carolina Book Award Book Club has started! This week, I have been reading Roxie and the Holligans by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor to students who come to the library at 7am for our read aloud book club. We’ve been having a great time and are all wondering what will happen to Roxie next…if you are interested in the book club, checkout the dates and the books I will be reading here.

Happy reading!

Exciting!

April 8, 2008

The first post for the NPES LMC blog! How exciting!

Today, I returned my opening day “binder” to our book vendor. I sort of wish I had taken a picture of it for the blog! The binder was a huge list of books that are considered to be “core collection” for an elementary school library. I went through and crossed out what I did not think we needed. I think in about a week or so, we will be able to submit the order for purchase! I cannot wait to see all of our new books. It’s going to be a lot of fun unpacking those boxes!
